Tattoos can represent a moment, a person, a memory or simply a style you loved at the time. But as life changes, sometimes our feelings about our tattoos change too. Whether it’s a name you’d rather forget, a design that no longer feels like “you”, faded ink, or a tattoo you’d like lightened ready for a cover-up, laser tattoo removal can help you move forward with confidence. At our award-winning laser clinic in Rainham, Kent, we offer professional laser tattoo removal treatments tailored to you, your skin and your tattoo.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?
Laser tattoo removal works by delivering controlled pulses of laser energy into the tattoo pigment. The energy breaks the tattoo ink into much smaller particles, which your body will then gradually clear through its natural processes. This is why tattoos fade progressively rather than disappearing immediately after treatment. Different ink colours can respond differently to laser treatment, and factors such as the age, size, location and depth of the tattoo can all influence the removal process.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This is one of the questions we’re asked most often and the answer is that every tattoo is different. Some tattoos respond relatively quickly, while others require a longer course of treatments. Professional tattoos can contain multiple layers of densely packed pigment, while older or already faded tattoos may respond differently. During your consultation, we will assess your tattoo and talk you through what you can realistically expect. It’s important to remember that laser tattoo removal is a process. Your skin needs sufficient time between treatments to recover and for your body to clear the fragmented pigment.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?
Everyone experiences laser treatment differently. Many clients describe the sensation as similar to an elastic band snapping against the skin. I personally would describe it as if you are frying an egg, and you get the back splash of the oil on your skin. But please don’t let this put you off, we have the amazing Cryo cooler to help with the discomfort and we have ice packs, stress balls and music to get you through. Treatments can also be surprisingly quick, particularly for smaller tattoos so you may even surprise yourself. We’ll explain the process before your treatment and make sure you know exactly what to expect both during your appointment and afterwards and if you have any questions, we are always happy to answer them.

Can You Completely Remove a Tattoo?
The aim of laser tattoo removal is to significantly fade or remove unwanted tattoo pigment, but results vary from person to person. Ink colour, tattoo depth, the type of pigment used, your skin and your individual response to treatment can all affect the final result. For that reason, no reputable clinic should promise that every tattoo will disappear completely. A consultation allows us to assess your individual tattoo and give you realistic expectations before you decide to proceed.

What If I Only Want My Tattoo Lightened?
You don’t necessarily have to remove your tattoo completely. Laser treatment can also be used to fade an existing tattoo before a cover-up. Lightening dark or heavily saturated areas can give your tattoo artist more flexibility when creating your new design. So, if you still love tattoos but simply don’t love this tattoo anymore, fading it could be the first step towards something new.

Why Choose a Professional Laser Clinic?
Laser tattoo removal should never be approached as a one-size-fits-all treatment. A professional consultation is important because your skin, tattoo and medical history needs to be considered before any treatment. You should also receive clear information about expected results, treatment intervals, aftercare and potential risks. At our award-winning laser clinic in Rainham, Kent, our focus is on providing professional treatment, honest advice and a personalised approach from your initial consultation onwards.

What Machine Do You Have?
At our clinic, we use the Lynton LUMINA Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser for our laser tattoo removal treatments. Lynton is a well-established name in professional medical and aesthetic laser technology, and the LUMINA is a sophisticated, multi-application laser platform designed for use by trained professionals.

For tattoo removal, the Q-Switched Nd:YAG technology delivers very short, high-energy pulses of laser light that target the pigment within the tattoo. The laser energy is absorbed by the tattoo ink, causing the pigment to break into much smaller particles. As mentioned above your body then gradually clears these fragmented ink particles through its natural processes, allowing the tattoo to fade progressively over time. One of the benefits of Q-Switched Nd:YAG technology is the use of different wavelengths to target different tattoo pigments. The 1064nm wavelength is particularly suited to darker pigments such as black, while the 532nm wavelength can target colours such as red and orange. We chose the Lynton LUMINA because we believe that when it comes to laser tattoo removal, the quality of the technology matters just as much as the knowledge and experience of the person operating it. Combined with a thorough consultation, appropriate treatment settings and professional aftercare advice, our Lynton LUMINA allows us to provide a considered, personalised approach to tattoo removal.

Autumn could be the perfect time to start your removal process. As we move into autumn and our skin is naturally covered more often, many people find it a convenient time to begin their treatment journey. Starting now also gives you plenty of time for your treatments and healing periods before next summer.

If there’s a tattoo you’ve been thinking about removing for months, or even years, perhaps this October is the month to finally do something about it.
