Most people don’t associate tattoo removal with cosmetic tattoos such as permanent makeup and microblading, but the demand for laser tattoo removal on such tattoos is incredibly high and increasing daily.
There are lots of reasons why you may not like the end result:
- They are too dark?
- Outside the natural brow line?
- Wrong shape?
- Too close together?
- Wrong colour for your skin tone?
- Microblading and it went wrong?
- The ink has saturated?
I have seen and heard it all. Whatever the reason may be, I can either reduce the ink enough to have them corrected, or remove the ink completely. The main differences between cosmetic tattooing and traditional body tattoos are the techniques and types of ink used, cosmetic tattoos are much easier to lift because the ink wouldn’t be as deep into the skin.
Many people want to have correctional work on top of brows they already dislike, purely because they believe there is no other option. I work alongside many professional permanent make-up artists and it is recommended by them, that if you have a laser on your brows beforehand you will get exactly what you want at the end and the brows you deserve.
Uncertainty is a natural part of the thinking process so let me answer some of the most common questions for you.
Will I lose my eyebrow hair?
Any hair loss resulting from laser tattoo removal will be minimal. Your eyebrow hair may discolour slightly however this is perfectly normal and is not permanent.
Will people know I have had the treatment done?
In short, the answer is no, you may get some general redness initially, and some swelling, however, if you use Aloe Vera gel on the area and sleep with your head slightly elevated it will reduce any signs of swelling and redness.
How many sessions will it take to go?
In some cases, four treatments is enough to reduce the tattoo because the compounds used in cosmetic tattoos do not have the same staying power as regular tattoos. The time it takes the tattoo to fade completely depends on the type of pigment used, the depth of the pigment and how well the area is looked after. Typically I would say 6-12 sessions for complete removal.
Will my eyes be protected?
Absolutely! I expect all of my clients to wear protective stainless steel eye shields if any work is being done on or near the face. Eye protection is absolutely critical and you should never consent to any laser removal near the face without it.
Do I have to shave my hair beforehand?
Noooo please do not shave your brow hair! We can laser the ink through the hair.
Will the ink change colour?
Whilst most of these respond quite well, i.e. following treatment, the ink fades gradually over the course of 6-8 weeks and we repeat the process until the ink has gone, we also find that some are prone to oxidisation. This is an interaction between certain inks and the laser light – and is completely unavoidable as we are never aware of what inks have been used during the tattooing process. These inks tend to initially darken but then fade in a more typical way over the course of treatments.
From our own and Lynton’s (our machine manufacturer) experience, the fading of oxidised ink happens in the vast majority of cases, however, there have been case studies where this hasn’t been so predictable and we like to warn all our clients of the potential for this occurring.
We will always carry out a small patch test on the edge of one eyebrow (we never treat tattooed lip outlines, eyeliner, or anyone who has had BB Glow). If we are happy with the outcome, we can proceed with treatment a minimum of one week later. If we are unsure, we are always happy to carry out further treatments on the patch tested area until confident that you are happy with the outcome.
Is the treatment successful?
Most definitely, I have so many before and after photos available for you to look at, to prove how amazing and successful laser tattoo removal is for the brows. I also have the most amazing reviews from clients who have and are going through the process.
How much is each session?
A consultation is free, if you wanted to go ahead with a patch test it would be £25 however this will come off of your first session cost. Each session after that will be £85 per session.
