Owning your own business can be hard, it can be overwhelming and sometimes very lonely.
Over the last 5 years of owning my own business I have built some of the best relationships networking. I think it is so important to have the right support network around you, helping to keep your ship afloat, cheering you on at the side-lines and guiding you through the tough times.
I am always connecting small businesses together as I believe collaboration is key, so I thought what better way than to start my own networking event here in the clinic over some delicious cake!
In April 2023, Collaborate with Cake was launched and it was a huge success, so much so I have decided to do the event quarterly. Our next Collaborate with Cake is on Wednesday the 28th June at 7pm, here at the clinic. (192 High Street, Rainham, ME8 8AT). The next one after that will be the end of August and December will be a big Christmas Party. Details of the Christmas party will be announced nearer the time.
Having the clinic means I now have lots of space to play with and I thought bringing a networking event to the clinic will be a fantastic opportunity for so many businesses in Medway. In my head I naturally thought no one would turn up, so much so, I even bought myself ticket haha. However, I gave myself a target of 10 people and the event was a sell-out. I had 35, yes 35 amazing women all under one roof, a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience in all different fields of business. I left that evening feeling very proud as I knew connections had been made, comfort zones had been broken and friendships had formed.
For anyone who has been networking – When you come to my networking event you do NOT need to stand up and introduce yourself for 1-minute haha. There is a chance to talk about your business or promote an event or new product but only if you want to – there is no pressure!
In my experience of networking, some good, some bad… you don’t go to “sell” to people. Yes, you talk about your business, you might share your goals and challenges but its about the people in the room. We may all be in different industries but the structure of running a business is the same and we are all pursuing a passion to succeed and achieve.
Networking helps to build your reputation, increases your visibility, builds a stronger support network, improves business growth and creates more impactful connections.
And it’s like anything… sometimes in life it’s not what you know, it’s who you know
